My good friend Santiago Tevisán published the image of this article ten months ago in a post on LinkedIn that said: ‘A business is a human story that must be designed so that the person lives the best (life) experience’. As a design-driven innovator, he knows what he’s talking about. His life is dedicated to people-centered, human-focused projects. Then, an unknown writer published the title of this article and the desire to experience what it is to be human again caught up with me (jaumefv, 2011).

So, I remember rewatching The Human Experience movie again thanks to these two posts. In a world plagued by hostility and violence, an altruistic group of young people strives to understand the true essence of the human spirit by visiting forgotten souls such as homeless New Yorkers, Peruvian orphans and isolated Ghanaian lepers. By highlighting poignant stories from around the world, this thought-provoking documentary shows viewers that every person, regardless of their lot in life, is beautiful.

Life is beautiful, it’s worth it, all lives are. Thomas Bergersen express that with The Human Experience Theme, a hopeful, sad but joyous melody with the guitar solo and the violins.

Looking at the world with us at the center of it we can perceive that on the one hand there is death, darkness, injustice, pain and suffering everywhere. Sometimes, without saying it out loud, we are glad that these conflicts are far from our interest or geography. By not experiencing what the other experiences, it does not impact me, nor does it occupy my thoughts or time. But on the other hand, we are amazed at the luxuries of the rich and famous, their successes, ostentation and lifestyle… And how much they attract us! We ambition, without saying it out loud, to have what they have in abundance. And while the distant disinterested us and the exuberant captivates us, our life escapes, day by day, second by second without having that intimate human experience of opening ourselves to others.

How much unhappiness. So much inner emptiness. Sadness and its endless pain.

What to do in such a scenario in which we are the center of the universe, and it is up to us to take the right, correct and best step? Before doing, we must be. Before being, we need to respond. What? What are those questions? These are and it would be worth asking us as soon as possible:

1. What do I really have besides nothing and little time? What is truly mine if even my life is not? What is our highest aspiration? How much time do I really spend serving others?

2. Do I give myself to those who need me freely and selflessly?

3. Do I moderate my appetites and pleasures in a healthy personality?

4. Do I endure all suffering and adversity with peace and serenity?

5. Do I moderate my almost infinite desires to devour?

6. Do I sincerely love the success of others?

7. Am I attentive and ready to do good no matter to whom?

Today is a good day to start asking, answering, being and doing to complete our soul, fill us with joy and everlasting happiness.
